About the Author
Woodlock, Mike: - Mike Woodlock is an innovative administrator, consultant, and graduate instructor who embraces change. As an acting principal in Massachusetts with 25 years of experience in education, Woodlock has the unique experience of being hired as a high school principal in a district where he was immediately tasked with implementing a strategic plan that required a complete transformation of the education system through the lens of UDL. Having experienced the barriers that come with the implementation of UDL, he oﬀers concrete insights about how to increase staﬀ engagement, transition staffing and schedules, and implement innovative pilot programs by creating conditions of nurture for all staﬀ while also improving school culture and community. Woodlock has worked with administrators across the country, supporting the implementation of multitiered systems of support, inclusive practice, and UDL. As a graduate instructor, Woodlock has been working with the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) as a part of the statewide Inclusive Practice Project (IPP), a project that helped to signiﬁcantly improve the state's inclusion rates. His work with UDL was highlighted in a publication by the National Association of Secondary School Principals, Principal LeadershipNovak, Katie: - Katie Novak, Ed.D., is an internationally renowned education consultant, a graduate instructor at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, and author of nine books on inclusive practices, including the bestsellers UDL Now!, Innovate Inside the Box with George Couros, and Equity by Design with Mirko Chardin. Novak has provided in-person professional development, long-term implementation, and consulting in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), inclusive practices, and equity in education in 27 states and 10 countries and has worked with high- proﬁle clients such as the NASA Science Activation Team, the Gates Foundation, Harvard University, Los Angeles Uniﬁed School District, and PBS Learning Media. Additionally, Novak has worked directly with state departments of education in Ohio, Washington, Minnesota, Hawaii, Wisconsin, Arizona, California, and Massachusetts to provide professional learning on UDL and the development of research-based multitiered systems of support. She has worked with the U.S. Department of Education Jobs for the Future (JFF) through the School Turnaround Learning Community and with the Office of Special Education Programs.
