Welcome to Grit City Books, one of the Pacific Northwest's newest independent bookstores. Launched in late 2023 as an online store, Grit City Books is proud to announce that we have opened our cozy, sun-filled 1,600-square-foot physical store on 6th Ave.

Our store offers an expertly curated selection of books, ranging from current bestsellers to eclectic titles across various genres and literary traditions, with an emphasis on highlighting queer and other underrepresented groups' stories. Alongside our books, you'll find a diverse range of gifts perfect for any occasion, including journals, calendars, greeting cards, games, and puzzles.

But we're more than just a bookstore. Our events, from author talks and community conversations to hosted and online book clubs, are designed to foster dialogue and enrich our community. We're also committed to educational outreach and look forward to partnering with local schools for book fairs and other educational events once our physical store opens.

Our ownership team - Jeff, Kaitlin, and Kegan - along with our dedicated staff, are deeply committed to our Tacoma community. As LGBTQIA+ owners, we're passionate about fostering a diverse and inclusive environment united by the joy of reading and learning. We draw inspiration from the community around us and aim to give back by hosting impactful fundraising events for local causes that align with our values.
